Title:Regional Training Course on Nuclear Cardiology and Oncology for Nuclear Medicine Technologists

Place: Tehran, Iran

Date: 11 to 15 May, 2002

Organizers: International Atomic Energy Agency in co-operation with the Government of Iran through.

Language: The language of instruction will be English.

Participation: The training course is open to 20 qualified candidates from countries in the west asia who are participating in the activities of TC regional project RAW/6/010: Integration of Nuclear Medicine into the National Healthcare System."

Participants' qualifications: The course is intended for practicing nuclear medicine technologists, who at least have access to gamma camera-computer systems. Partipating countries are encouraged to submit more than one application to provide scope for IAEA final selection. As the course will be conducted in English, participants should have no difficulty following lectures and expressing themselves in this language.

Background: To improve nuclear medicine service in the West Asia Region countries, it is important to have efficient and knowledgeable technologists to perform nuclear medicine studies

Purpose of the Training Course:

The course is organised to provide intensive practical and theoretical training to nuclear medicine Technologists from less developed countries of the region in the field of Nuclear Medicine. On completion of the training course the participants will be able to::

  • Operate and perform QC of gamma camera
  • Recognize various radiopharmaceuticals used in nuclear medicine
  • Perform different nuclear medicine imaging techniques in Cardiology and Oncology;
  • Utilize PACS and Tele-Nuclear Medicine Technology;

Nature of the course:

The training course includes coverage of a wide range of aspects of Nuclear Medicine Techniques and modern communication technology. The lecturers include several specialists who have extensive experience in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Application Procedure:

Nominations should be submitted in duplicate on the standard IAEA application form for training courses. Completed forms should be endorsed by and returned through the official channels established (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the national Atomic Energy Authority or the office of the United Nations Development Programme). They must be received by the International Atomic Energy Agency, P.O. Box 100, A-1400, Vienna, not later than 15 March, 2002. Nominations received after that date or applications sent directly by individuals cannot be considered. Advanced nominations by facsimile (+43-1-26007), telex (1-12645) or e-mail (IAEO@IAEA1.IAEA.OR.AT) are welcome. The facsimile/telex/e-mail should contain the following basic information about the candidate: name, age, sex, academic qualifications, present position including exact nature of duties carried out, proficiency in English and full working address (including telex, facsimile and telephone numbers) to enable the IAEA to make preliminary evaluation of the candidates.

Language Certificate:

In the case of countries in which English is not an official or customary language, nominations must be accompanied by a separate certificate of the candidate’s proficiency in English. This certificate must be issued by a language school or cultural institution, or an embassy of a country in which the language of the course is spoken.

Administrative and financial arrangements:

Nominating Governments will be informed in due course of the names of the selected candidates and at that time full details will be given on the procedures to be followed with regard to administrative and financial matters. During their attendance at the course, participants from developing countries, eligible to receive technical assistance, will be provided by the IAEA with a stipend sufficient to cover the cost of their accommodation, food and minor incidental expenses. The IAEA will also pay the full cost of their air travel, economy class, from their home countries to Teheran, Iran and return. Nominating Governments must be prepared to defray the cost of shipment of accumulated course materials to the participants' home countries. The organizers of the course do not accept liability for the payment of any cost or compensation that may arise from damage to or loss of personal property, or from illness, injury, disability or death of a participant while he/she is traveling to and from or attending the course, and it is clearly understood that each government, in nominating participants, undertakes responsibility for such coverage. Governments would be well advised to take out insurance against these risks.
